Temperature
The weather in Puerto de la Cruz and consequently in Lago Martiánez is generally mild, with mild winters and cool summers. Daytime temperatures in winter never drop below 20°C, while in summer they can reach 27°C, so it is always pleasant to stroll and enjoy outdoor activities. A light jacket is sufficient in the “cooler” months, and flip-flops and lightweight cotton shirts are almost mandatory in the summer.
Panzaburro
We must not overlook the phenomenon of “panzaburro,” a thick cloudiness that occurs in the summer months when the moist trade winds from the Atlantic collide with the peaks and stagnate on the northern slope, forming the well-known sea of clouds at around 1500m. When “panzaburro” dominates, despite creating a screen that blocks the sun, the atmosphere becomes warm and stuffy. On those days, special care must be taken not to expose oneself to the sun without protection, as the cloud cover may make us believe that solar radiation is absent, which is not true.
RAINFALL
Regarding precipitation, we must say that, like in all of the Canary Islands, it is scarce, concentrating in the winter months on isolated days, so you shouldn’t worry about this aspect because if it rains one day, you can be sure that the sun will shine the next day.
Puerto de la Cruz is not an especially windy area; only the sea breeze takes care of swaying the palm trees on Avenida de Colón and refreshing the hottest days of summer.
