Do not expect to discover in these lines a scientific description of the climatic characteristics of Puerto de la Cruz, rather we will give a shallow brushstrokes of the thermal sensations and comfort that we can find in a visit to Puerto de la Cruz. We will also be able to discover in real time the meteorological conditions of the municipality thanks to the AEMET widget.
THE TEMPERATURE
The weather in Puerto de la Cruz and therefore in Lago Martiánez is generally mild, with mild winters and cool summers. Daytime temperatures in winter never drop below 20ºC, while in summer they can be as low as 27ºC, therefore it is always pleasant to walk and live outdoors. A jacket will suffice in the “colder” months, and flip-flops and light cotton T-shirts are almost mandatory in the summer.
LA PANZABURRO
We must not ignore the phenomenon of the “panzaburro”, a thick cloudiness that occurs in the summer months when the humid trade winds of the Atlantic hit the peaks and stagnate on the north slope forming the well-known sea of clouds at about 1500m. When the burro is dominant, despite generating a screen that does not let the sun see, the environment becomes hot and muggy. On those days you have to be especially careful about exposing yourself to the sun without protection, since cloudiness can make us believe that the solar incidence is zero and this is not true.
